Historical GL Watch Party!

Edit: This watch party has now taken place. Thanks for coming! I'm sorry about the technical issues which meant that we ended up watching Led Astray by Love instead of Nü Er Hong as planned. Apologies to any people who were disappointed. I think I've now sorted the issue so things should work more smoothly next time.

Edit: I've now added a link to a countdown timer for the event to minimise timezone confusion! Thanks to halfcactus for the suggestion! Also, the idea is that webcam and mic will both be disabled for the duration of the watch party, and interactions will be text chat-only, if anyone was concerned about privacy!

Countdown timer to the event

Having reviewed everyone's responses to the interest check post, I'd like to propose a watch party on Thursday 28 December at 1600 GMT. The show we'll be watching is Nü Er Hong. I know someone said it might be too dark for them, and parts of it are dark, but it's dark in a fantastical way compared to A Flower for Three Lifetimes, which is dark in a sort of more realistic way (domestic violence, etc — if 'realistic' even makes sense as a term for describing a xianxia show).

The platform we'll be watching on is twoseven, and I'll generate and post a watch link as an edit to this post about 15 minutes before the start time. Could everyone planning to join the watch party please create a twoseven account prior to the start time, if you don't have one already (though I know an extra account is a bit of a pain).

Please let me know if the time/date works for you! I'm open to tweaking it to accommodate more people.

Excuse the super-duper dumb question but what, exactly, does a watch party entail? Do I need to put a sticky over my laptop camera? lol

The idea is that we all log into twoseven and should be able to view the show simultaneously via the platform. I'm going to disable webcam and mic so interactions will be chat-only. Though honestly covering up your laptop camera as a matter of routine is probably good security practice!

It’s probably just as well; I have the attention span of a two year old so I’d probably start talking when I shouldn’t and annoy other viewers. Haha

PS. Would also suggest posting a link to an event countdown (for example event time announcer, though there are others) so there's less timezone confusion?

Hey, thanks again for setting this up. I don't think I showed enough appreciation for your efforts. I can imagine the stress when things didn't go as planned but you came through like a champ so thanks very much!

Say, what do you think about having a Painter of the Wind watch party? 20 episodes is long as heck but someone was kind enough to share with me the episodes that have somewhat been condensed into just a little over 8 hours instead of the 20+ hours it actually is. Maybe we could do a once-a-month thing or something like that? Anyway, I just love that show and it's an idea. Let me know if you'd be interested at all. :)

Thanks so much for coming! The technical issues gave me flashbacks to the start of lockdown when I was still trying to get to grips with running virtual live events, but I guess we got through in the end.

I would be interested in a Painter of the Wind watch (or re-watch, for me). Might not work as a comm activity as it's a k-drama, but I could maybe organise something for a more general GL audience via twitter? Let me think a bit about the logistics. Also, is there a link to the condensed version of the show you mentioned?

Were those virtual live events work related? Because that would have been worse. But then again, I guess a lot of people were in the same boat so hopefully folks were more patient/forgiving.
