Tumblr user theheightofdishonor has put together a massive rec list of live action Asian GL, including Couple of Mirrors plus a number of Chinese GL mini-dramas and short films. Check it out here!
some short gl dramas I've watched

I've started slowly watching through some baihe rec lists and so far, have made two journal posts: short Chinese GL dramas, part 1 and short Chinese GL dramas, part 2. Out of these eight dramas I've so far seen, my favorites have been The Story of the Demon Cult Leader and the Decent Miss, The Vampires, and (unsurprisingly) Nü Er Hong.
(Wasn't sure how to tag this post, so I only tagged recs and reviews.)

I've now read the English translation of Mai Jia's The Message and seen (at least some of) the four adaptations. I'm glad I read the book, but tbh I enjoyed the 2020 and 2023 adaptations more than it.
(there's some spoilers for all of them (and the book) under the cuts)

Drama Rec: The Message (风声) (2020)
Apr. 4th, 2024 10:56 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)

Set in mid 1941, five employees of the puppet government's Bandit Suppression Headquarters are tasked with finding a Communist spy amongst themselves. All of them, including their interrogators, have something to hide.
(38 × ~45 minutes)
( mostly unspoilerly details )
Drama Rec: The Evidence Tells (消失的痕迹)

(I posted versions of this to my journal and
c_ent, but I figured I should include it here too.)
The Evidence Tells (消失的痕迹) is a police procedural with two female leads (well there's technically a male lead too, but the women get the most focus).
Finally returning to work after being devastated by an undercover operation gone bad (and the death of a colleague she was close to) police captain Bai Lu meets medical examiner Gu Yu who is a suspect in a murder. And a symbol at the crime scene indications that the murder might have links to the ill-fated operation.
(here's a subtitled trailer)
( some of what I like about it )
( about the ending )
It's a somewhat shorter drama than I'd expected (there's 32 episodes, but they're each ~21 minutes long) and there's six cases in total.
( roughly how the cases are divided )
( some promo photos of our heroines )
( potential caveats (with details under spoiler code) )
(Would it be possible to have a review or rec tag for dramas?)
