Really enjoying all of Shen Ni's (continued) little digs at people who've annoyed her. Though I can't help wondering whether it's going to rebound on her at some point. I'm also enjoying the subtlety with which she's trying to communicate to Bian Jin: That was NOT my girlfriend you saw hugging me!
Continuing to greatly enjoy the relationship development, which only gets better in the later chapters that I've read.
Bian Jin married a spunky woman ... she probably doesn't know what she's in for. ha ha I vacillate between who's stronger between the two. Actually, I think they complement each other really beautifully.
‘Just act as if you love me, shijie.’ --> For some reason, this really punched me in the gut. There's such a yearning from Shen Ni that she herself won't even acknowledge. The fear of rejection, non-reciprocity ... they really have a long way to go. A bittersweet love.
I'm also really enjoying the relationship development. I like when the growth of a relationship is interspersed throughout the story. Sometimes, a story goes on for too long without doing this and it makes me lose interest.
The author is quite artful about the way she gives them opportunities to show off their different skills. They each get their own turn to shine/protect the other. I like the deliberate work put into highlighting the fact that they're equals.
